The Pumpkin Smash is an effort by communities to divert pumpkins from landfills by providing opportunities to have jack-o-lanterns composted.
NO PAINTED PUMPKINS PLEASE Don’t Trash it, Smash it!
The pumpkins are eaten by microorganisms at the anaerobic digester and turned into clean energy and compost. Pumpkins are a valuable resource that can be used to feed wildlife, turned into compost or used for clean energy! Please don't put them in your regular trash can where they will be wasted at a landfill or incinerator. Come to the Pumpkin Smash event for smashing or just to drop off. If you can't make the event, pumpkins can be brought to the food waste drop offs at the City Recycling Center and 675 Randolph Road.
Please remove paint, candles and wax from the pumpkin prior to dropping them off.
