Reasonable Accommodations

Summer Camp Programs

Policy Statement:
Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II, Middletown will make reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. Accommodation will be provided in accordance with the principals of dignity, individualization, and inclusion. Middletown will work cooperatively, and in a spirit of respect, with all partners in the accommodation process.
Any accommodation granted must be reasonable.  The accommodation should not result in an undue hardship to Middletown, nor should it change the fundamental nature of the summer camp in question.

Procedure:
When parents/guardians disclose that their child has a disability and may need accommodation, disclosure must occur in a reasonable time frame before a program commences, and the following shall occur:

A conversation and/or meeting between the parent/guardian and the relevant administrator to provide an opportunity to discuss options that might allow the child to participate in the summer camp without undue hardship. The relevant administrator shall assess the request to determine if the accommodation is reasonable and fits within guidelines stated in this policy.

The relevant administrator will communicate the decision to the parents/guardians in a timely manner.
